If you have been smoking cigarettes for a while and have tried to quit but failed, then perhaps it’s time that you gave vaping a go. The most common question everyone asks when they first consider e-cigarettes or vapes is how to use a vape? They look complicated, but once you get started, you’ll be vaping within minutes. There really isn’t anything too complicated about it. Let’s check out how to use a vape!

Vaporizers or vapes have been around for over a decade now. They were first introduced in China in 2003/2004 and invented by a Chinese Pharmacist, Hon Lik, that was sick of smoking. Within a few years vaping spread all over North America, Asia, Europe, and the rest of the world. Now, almost 20,000 new people per year quit smoking thanks to vaporizers.

Your vape is made up of several different components. E-cigarettes and vaporizers are all slightly different, but many devices share a similar design and operate the same way. The most common types are vape pens and box mods. The battery on your vape is what sends power to the atomizer or coil. Depending on what size your vape is, will play a large part in how hard your vape hits and how long your batteries can last.

Vapes with internal batteries are charged via a USB port and usually last you a day of vaping. Larger vapes with removable 18650 batteries will last 1-2 days depending on how often you’re vaping. Smaller vapes are easier to slip into a pocket and more affordable, but when that internal battery dies, your vape dies too. With removable batteries, you can switch out batteries if they die and your mod is still good to go.

The battery sends power to the atomizer or coil. This is what heats the vape juice and turns the juice into a vapor that you inhale. The coil determines how much vapor the vape produces. Lower ohms coils need more power but throw out larger amounts of vapor. Coils below 1 ohm are known as sub-ohm vaping. The coils are made of wire, and the wire is wrapped around cotton wicking which absorbs the vape juice. They usually last between 2-6 weeks depending on the type of vape juice you’re vaping.

The coil sits inside the tank. This is where you fill up with vape juice. The vape juice soaks into the cotton wicking wrapped around the coil. Whenever you load a new coil, it’s best to allow it to pre-soak for 5-10 minutes before you vape to avoid burnt dry hits.

When you’re ready to vape you simply hold down the firing button on the vape and the current will transfer from the battery to your coil. This heats the coil in the tank which rapidly heats the vape juice turning it into a vapor. You simply inhale the vapor through the mouthpiece on the vape. When you have had enough, let go of the firing button, and the vape stops sending current to the coil.
