The golden question all vapers ask themselves, is vaping bad for you? Depending on what articles you have read, some say its ok and some say it is just as bad as smoking cigarettes. In this article, we will cover both sides of the story.
Is Vaping Bad?
As we all know by now smoking cigarettes can cause cancer. This has been backed up by scientific evidence. Harmful chemicals from a cigarette can attack the lungs causing long term breathing issues such as chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and pulmonary disease.
Those bad chemicals, more than 70 of which are identified as carcinogens get buried into your lung cells causing various diseases. Now even though vaping is particularly new compared to smoking, research has shown that the vapor produced from vaping has no known carcinogens which results in a healthier habit.
Should I Be Vaping Non-Nicotine Vape Juice?
Next on the list is nicotine, which some vapers choose to put in their eliquid. Nicotine is known for briefly increasing your heart rate and blood circulation. So no real problems there. It has been linked to cardiovascular disease but you would be at a very low risk.
A report conducted in 2018 by researchers from the British North American Tobacco Committee examined both vapor and tobacco smoke for their capability to cause cell mutation. The smoke triggered mutations and was also poisonous to the body’s natural bacteria while the vapor did neither. Now, this isn’t complete proof, but a good indication to ditch the ciggies in place of a vape.
Many tv and radio stations like to popularize small-scale studies that show vaping in a negative light. The fact is eliquid does contain toxins but in a very small amount. Our anatomies have natural defenses that can fight against cancer-causing waste. On the other hand, smoking causes early death in around half of regular smokers. I to this date have not found any substantial proof that vaping triggers any serious health issues.
Vaping vs Smoking
As vaping grows in popularity around the world, so too does the naysayers and anti-vaping groups. Let’s look at some facts that relate to the benefits of vaping vs smoking!
Many vapers that have already successfully made the switch from smoking to vaping and may have experienced the health benefits first hand. For example, as a vaper, you will have a lower risk of respiratory infections and pneumonia. For others who are still considering making the switch, here are some facts about vaping vs. smoking!
There is a lot of information about vaping available online, not all of it is true. It’s always a good idea to put some time aside to do your own research. A great resource to look up scientific evidence is Google Scholar. Just type in your question and hit search. There is an abundant amount of research done on vaping and eliquid available for you to read.
Vaping is surrounded by myths and misinformation. One of the biggest myths surrounding vaping is that nicotine is dangerous and causes the majority of health problems associated with smoking. A thorough report done by the Public Health England has proven this wrong and instead say that EC or electronic cigarettes pose no risk of nicotine poisoning to users.
Vaping Is Better Than Smoking
Another huge advantage of vaping vs. smoking is the ability to choose from a wide variety of devices. There are hundreds of different electronic cigarettes and thousands of good eliquid flavors to try. It doesn’t matter if you like fruits, candy, drinks, desserts, or even traditional tobacco flavors, there will be a flavor out there for you! It’s a good idea to start off with smaller bottles of eliquid just to make sure you enjoy a flavor before rushing out and buying a big bottle that you may not enjoy.
Does Vaping Make Your Breath Smell?
No, that’s the huge advantage of vaping vs smoking, it isn’t going to leave your home, car, clothes or breath stinking like an ashtray. Vapor from vaporizers and e-cigarettes won’t stain walls or clothes and doesn’t linger as long as cigarette smoke. Also, there is a great study titled ‘peering through the mist’ which suggests that there is little to no risk of exposure to any danger through secondhand vapor.
One of the biggest debates over the last decade or so has been the question,’is vaping better than smoking?’. Let’s look at this argument from both sides of the fence and see what we can find.
Is Vaping Better Than Smoking Cigarettes?
Vaping, in the beginning, was designed as a way to help smokers quit cigarettes. Most devices in the early 2000s looked like your standard cigarette. They were in some ways successful at being a prevention or cessation tool for smokers.
What Are The Differences Between Vaping And Smoking
Vaping started over a decade ago in China. It wasn’t until about 2010 that vaping really started to take off. Compare that to smoking which has been around for 100’s of years now. The main differences between vaping and smoking that are health-related primarily depend on the method of fire and ingredient intake.
What is in vape juice you ask. Most eliquid contains vegetable glycerin, polyethylene glycol, flavoring, and nicotine. Is vaping bad? maybe. While the ingredients are food grade and FDA approved to be ingested, researchers are still not sure what kind of effects vapor has on the body.
If you believe the hype then vaping is the best thing since sliced bread. Alternately some people say that vaporizers are just a new way to hook kids onto smoking. So, which one is it? Are they just tasty cigarettes designed to addict children at an early age. I personally think not.
While the rise in popularity is fueling innovation across the industry, increased legislation is hitting vaping businesses hard. Some governments like the United Kingdom have come out in support of vaping. In contrast, other governments like Singapore and Australia have backed away from e-cigarettes completely. Singapore went as far as banning vaping use completely.
Unfortunately one of the largest health organizations in the world has been on the fence for some years now in regards to vaping. The World Health Organisation hasn’t condemned it or endorsed it. The WHO is one of the leading health organizations and many countries follow their advice.
Ultimately, what you choose to believe is up to you. Is vaping better than smoking? There have been no credible studies done to date which have indicated that vaping is bad for you. There has been a lot of misinformation published in mainstream media. We will have to wait and see what happens to vapers in the long-term.
You can hardly blame governments for their hesitant approach to e-cigarettes and vaping. We were all once told that cigarettes weren’t harmful either!
Is Vaping Good or Bad?
The biggest advantage of vaping is the lower health risks associated with quitting smoking. Vapers avoid the thousands of dangerous carcinogens in cigarettes which cause the majority of cancer and health problems. The carcinogens in cigarette smoke account for nearly 400,000 premature deaths each year in the USA.
