The Stick V9 MAX 60W Starter Kit is the latest innovation from SMOK, in what has been a hugely successful year for them. The SMOK Stick V9 Max boasts an upgraded internal battery, custom designed coils and a huge 8.5ml pyrex glass tube. SMOK have dominated in 2018, releasing popular products like the NORD, Species, Mag Grip and TFV Sub-Ohm tank series.
Each and every device has pushed engineering boundaries, while still maintaining a beautiful aesthetic design. The SMOK Stick V9 Max has made a big splash in this popular line, improving greatly on the Stick V8 in both looks and performance. This is especially true when placing the specifications of both SMOK Sticks, side by side.
The Stick V9 MAX 60W Starter Kit is 87.8mm in height with a 28mm base diameter. It weighs 133.5 grams, which gives the Stick V9 some good weight, without being too heavy. The increase to overall weight is due to the new internal 4000 mAh battery. This is unprecedented technology that hasn’t been seen in a vape stick before. The previous V8 only had a 3000 mAh battery. This can be charged via the included micro USB cable.
Most functions will be controlled by the new pentagon power button which has a nice click to it and provides excellent resistance when pushed. The intelligent LED battery life indicator sits in the center of the pentagon power button and will flash a variety of colors indicating different operations. For example it will flash green when the power has 70% remaining. I think this is enough for a beginner vaper to get by. There really is no need for a dedicated menu to complicate things for a device like this.
The maximum wattage output is 60 watts with an operating voltage range between 2.5 – 4.1 volts. The smart mechanical style operating system will adjust the output based on the coil installed, so you don’t have to worry about a thing. The Stick V9 MAX 60W Starter Kit also includes multiple protection systems including 8 second shut off, low voltage, short circuit and lithium battery protection.
The Stick V9 MAX Sub-Ohm tank is 28mm in diameter and can hold a whooping 8.5ml’s of ejuice. It weighs just 65 grams and is made mostly from a stainless steel construction. SMOK claim that the glass is high grade and reinforced but on my first small drop the glass shattered. I would have liked to see a spare glass included in the kit, perhaps a frosted delrin one, just in case of accidents.
The top fill cap will be familiar to previous SMOK product vapers because the rotary design is back, with its superior lock button mechanism. I did notice that it was a bit stiff. The same was to say for the airflow control. I have experienced this previously in other sub-ohm tanks and it usually eases up after some time of use. I do appreciate SMOK’s efforts to make everything tight fitting and leak proof.
The coils that come with the Stick V9 MAX 60W Starter Kit include the Mini V2 S1 ( which is pre-installed ) and the Mini V2 S2. Both coils perform great and have been purposely built for the SMOK stick range. The flavor and clouds are great for a sub-ohm tank and could be compared to some RDA’s even. The triple adjustable air slots at the base of your tank help greatly in allowing lots of smooth airflow to get drawn in.
The custom 16mm delrin widebore drip tip worked well but wasn’t necessarily aesthetically pleasing or comfortable for my mouth. I much prefer the interchangeable 810 cobra drip tip that accompanies the TFV sub-ohm tanks. The one thing that it does do right is provide great heat protection for my lips.
The SMOK Stick V9 MAX 60W Starter Kit is going to cost you around $49.95 USD. Taking into consideration the higher class battery, I think this is a great deal. The price is very competitive in comparison to other vape pens on the market. I would highly recommend this product to new vapers who are looking for a no fuss vaping solution.
The main package design is a cardboard sleeve that wraps around the box. It features the classic SMOK color pallet that consists of reds, whites and blacks. I think this works and represents the brand identity well. The faux leather box was impressive and added some value to the product. Inside you will find your SMOK Stick V9 Max, SMOK Stick V9 Max Sub-Ohm tank, 2 x coils, micro USB cable, spare parts bag and instructional manual.
The main body is made from stainless steel and feels comfortable in hand. The Stick V9 MAX 60W Starter Kit is available in a variety of colors including SS, Black, Red, Blue, Gold, Purple, Green and Rainbow. While the look of the stick could be construed by some as suggestible, I think its rather stealthy and looks decent. I would have liked to have seen a straight glass spare included for those people who don’t mind filling up regularly. Also the flared design on the bottom seems unnecessary. But of course this is all just personal opinion.
